How to Save X (Twitter) Videos on iPhone & Android

Guide · 4 min read · Updated August 6, 2026

Short answer: you can save an X (Twitter) video in three steps — copy the post link, paste it on wesaveall.com, and download the MP4. No app to install, no X account, and it works the same on iPhone, Android, and desktop.

X still has no built-in "save video" button, so screen recording is what most people reach for. But screen recording adds glare, drops quality, and captures whatever else is on your screen. Grabbing the actual MP4 file is cleaner, faster, and gives you a proper video you can re-share anywhere.

The three steps

Step 1 — Copy the post link

  1. Open the post that contains the video.
  2. Tap the Share icon under the post (the arrow, or the three dots on older layouts).
  3. Choose Copy link — the link to the post is now on your clipboard.

You don't need to copy the video itself, just the link to the post it lives in. Both x.com and twitter.com links work, so it doesn't matter which one your app or browser hands you.

Step 2 — Paste it on WeSaveAll

  1. Open wesaveall.com in any browser.
  2. Paste the link into the bar (long-press → Paste on a phone).
  3. Press Download.

WeSaveAll reads the post and pulls up the video in a second or two.

Step 3 — Pick your format

  1. Choose a quality — usually HD MP4 for the best-looking file.
  2. Prefer just the sound? Pick MP3 to save the audio only.
  3. Tap Download and the file is saved to your device.

That's the whole flow. Below is where the file actually lands on each device.

On iPhone (iOS)

When you tap Download in Safari, iOS asks where to save it. Choose Files, and the MP4 drops into the Downloads folder inside the Files app.

To move it into your camera roll, open the Files app, find the video, tap Share, then Save Video — it now appears in Photos alongside your own clips. If you use Chrome on iPhone, tap the download arrow in the top bar to reach the same file.

On Android

Android saves the MP4 straight to your Downloads folder. You'll usually see a notification the moment it finishes — tap it to open the video right away.

To find it later, open your Files (or My Files) app and look under Downloads, or check the Videos section of your Gallery. From there you can share it to WhatsApp, your gallery, or anywhere else.

On desktop

  1. Open the post on x.com in your browser and copy the post link.
  2. Paste it into the bar on the X (Twitter) video downloader and press Download.
  3. Pick your quality and the MP4 saves to your computer's Downloads folder.

Desktop is handy when you want the largest available resolution or plan to edit the clip afterwards.

Saving a GIF from X

Here's something that trips people up: X "GIFs" aren't real GIF files. X converts every GIF into a short, silent video behind the scenes, so when you download one it arrives as an MP4. That's completely normal — and it's actually better, because MP4s are smaller and play smoothly on apps that don't support GIF uploads. If you specifically need a looping .gif, convert the MP4 afterwards with any GIF-maker tool.

FAQ

Do I need to log in to X or create an account? No. WeSaveAll needs only the post link. There's no login, no sign-up, and no app to install — on either the tool or on X.

Can I download videos from private or protected accounts? No — and honestly, no reliable tool can. Protected posts are only visible to approved followers, so their videos aren't publicly accessible. WeSaveAll works with public posts only.

Does it still work now that Twitter is X? Yes. The rebrand from Twitter to X changed the name and logo, not the underlying links. Both twitter.com and x.com URLs are accepted, so old bookmarks and new links both work.

Why did my video save as MP4 when it was a GIF? Because X stores GIFs as video files. See the section above — an MP4 is the expected, and usually more useful, result.
